Those of you still following the Iraq fiasco are having a field day this week watching the desperate war of spin control in Washington. The President has tried to sell a puny 30,000 troop cut as a real reduction when it only returns troop levels to their January level. But now it appears that the opposition in Congress is getting a little more real. So today Robert Gates comes out and starts talking about a 60,000 troop cut. He isn't say definite but he's definitely floating the idea. The aim of this is, of course, to dampen criticism while keeping the war going long enough for Bush and company to retire without being tagged with failure. Let's just hope the Dems don't get suckered as usual. Really where are the true statesmen when they are needed?
